Queen Elizabeth II - A memorial
Honouring the 70 year monarch
After Thursday's shocking announcement the nation, if not the world, is in mourning over the loss of Queen Elizabeth II. With emotions being so raw at the moment, enabling oneself to process emotions in a healthy way - is a crucial necessity facing us all.
The Queen came to the throne in 1952 and witnessed enormous social change. Queen Elizabeth II's tenure as head of state spanned post-war austerity, the transition from empire to Commonwealth, the end of the Cold War and the UK's entry into - and withdrawal from - the European Union. Her reign spanned 15 prime ministers starting with Winston Churchill, born in 1874, and including Ms Truss, born 101 years later in 1975. She held weekly audiences with her prime minister throughout her reign. At Buckingham Palace in London, crowds awaiting updates on the Queen's condition began crying as they heard of her death. The union flag on top of the palace was lowered to half-mast at 18:30 BST and an official notice announcing the death was posted outside (BBC News)
On Friday, 9th September 2022, we erected a memorial to honour and respect the life, achievements and history of Elizabeth Windsor in our centre, opposite Costa. As a further sign of respect this will be in place for the full 12-day mourning period and to comprehensively enable our visitors to have a place for them to direct their emotions.

We placed a 'Book of Condolences' within the display to give anyone seeking a place to extend their thoughts and feelings. After 4 days, we have already gone through 2 books! This illustrates just how impactful Queen Elizabeth's 70 year reign was and how many people she has touched!

Affinity Staffordshire sends the royal family our deepest condolences.
Thank you for your service Ma'am!
